In demo mode (AI_PROVIDER=mock), enhancements are applied locally using Sharp image processing — no external API calls, no cost. Production mode connects to Replicate AI (nightmareai/real-esrgan and others) for true AI upscaling and enhancement. The mode is displayed clearly in the app.
